Suriname is no longer in the epidemic phase of chikungunya. The number of reported infections has clearly declined, according to the Bureau for Public Health (BOG).

Nonetheless, the virus is still circulating in the community, particularly in Paramaribo and Brokopondo, where cases continue to be recorded.

Recently circulated images suggest a new outbreak, but according to authorities, this is incorrect. The images are old, and the situation in the country has improved since the decline in infections.
