Chinese authorities have begun reviewing a draft law aimed at combating cross-border corruption. This legislation intends to expand the jurisdiction of authorities over activities occurring outside the country, allowing them to intervene in cases involving Chinese companies operating internationally.

The draft of the Cross-Border Anti-Corruption Law consists of 47 articles, as reported. Its objective is to protect China's national interests while ensuring the enforcement of the law in commercial operations involving foreign territories.

In addition to strengthening jurisdiction, the law also seeks to impose new compliance obligations on Chinese companies that expand their operations beyond borders. These obligations aim to ensure that business practices comply with the standards established by the Chinese government.

Another purpose of the new legislation is to assist in the repatriation of funds obtained unlawfully, thereby aiming to enhance control over corruption that affects the country and its commercial relations abroad.

The review of this legislation is a step by China in the fight against corruption, reflecting an effort to more effectively coordinate the supervision of the global business activities of its entities.
