Christian Giefing sets Austrian record over 200m freestyle at European Championships
Christian Giefing set the OSV record over 200m freestyle at the swimming European Championships in Paris and qualified for the semifinals.
Eighteen-year-old Christian Giefing has set a new Austrian record over 200m freestyle at the swimming European Championships in Paris. He swam a time of 1:44.96, improving the previous record of Felix Auböck, set on June 26, 2022, at the World Championships in Budapest, by 0.15 seconds.
In the heats, Giefing was the fastest, securing his place in the semifinals. Just four weeks ago at the Junior European Championships in Munich, Giefing had recorded a personal best of 1:45.88, which he improved by 0.92 seconds in Paris.
The swimming European Championships are currently taking place in Paris, and Giefing's performance may increase the pressure on his competitors as he prepares for the upcoming events.
