Civilian death toll in Ukraine reaches highest level since May 2022
According to a UN report, July 2023 saw the highest number of civilian deaths in Ukraine since May 2022, with a significant rise in casualties.
July 2023 was the deadliest month for civilians in Ukraine since May 2022, following four and a half years of Russian invasion, according to a report published by the UN.
The report states that at least 437 civilians were killed and 2,610 were injured during this period. This marks a 30% increase compared to the previous month and a 70% rise compared to July 2022.
UN authorities noted that the intensification of long-range missile strikes by Moscow could be a contributing factor to this increase in the civilian toll.
The report, released on August 13 by the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU), highlights the increasingly precarious situation for civilians in the country.
Statistics indicate that this July should be viewed in the context of the escalating conflict and ongoing military strikes, without providing indications on future developments.
