Companies in Portugal reported a total of 375 collective layoffs by July of this year, according to data released today by the Directorate-General for Employment and Labor Relations (DGERT). This figure represents an increase of about 13% compared to the same period last year.

The 375 collective layoffs recorded so far correspond to the highest figure since 2020, a year in which 420 cases of collective layoffs were reported during the first seven months, largely driven by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The DGERT emphasizes the significance of these numbers in the current context of the labor market in Portugal, reflecting changes in employment conditions and business dynamics. Although the data does not specify which sectors were most affected, the increase in layoffs may indicate a reorganization within companies.

The evolution of these numbers will be monitored, and new data could be released in the coming months, allowing for a more in-depth analysis of the employment situation in Portugal.
