On the day of Abelardo de la Espriella's inauguration, violent attacks occurred in Colombia, causing one death and several injuries. According to reports, the attacks have been attributed to dissidents from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).

The military indicated that a toll booth under construction on the Pan-American Highway, near Cali, was destroyed by explosives. This event took place shortly after de Espriella promised to relentlessly fight against narcoterrorism and other criminal organizations during his inaugural speech.

Additionally, one police officer was killed and several others were injured during the incidents that shook the country. These acts of violence come at a time when Colombia is facing one of the worst waves of violence in a decade.
