Corinthians does not renew contract with Memphis Depay

Corinthians has decided not to renew the contract of 32-year-old striker Memphis Depay, thus ending his two-season stint at the club. The decision was announced following a meeting between the player, Corinthians president Osmar Stabile, and executive football director Marcelo Paz.

The negotiations, which dragged on for some time, culminated in a preliminary agreement over the weekend, but due to financial reasons, the club opted not to proceed.

Corinthians published a lengthy statement on Tuesday afternoon (11) expressing gratitude to Memphis Depay for his service during his time at the club and detailing the reasons for his departure.

The decision marks the end of a 'soap opera' concerning the player's continuity in Brazil, with the club emphasizing the importance of financial health as a decisive factor.
