In a recent statement, Islamic scholar Kanthapuram A P Aboobacker Musliyar asserted that women should remain confined to their homes, aligning his views with a circular from the AP faction of Samastha aimed at limiting women's participation in public events. Musliyar defended his position by referencing religious texts that he believes mandate purdah for the protection of women, and he indicated that these teachings have been held by knowledgeable scholars for over a century.

The remarks by Musliyar have sparked backlash, particularly from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), with Sreemathy Teacher criticizing the notion that women should be kept at home. She highlighted the implications of such views on women's rights and freedom in society.

In addition, Musliyar likened women to 'gold kept safely in a box', further asserting that the purdah system is designed to ensure their safety. He has committed to remaining vocal about his perspectives despite facing criticism.

Following Musliyar's comments, there has been significant pushback from various Kerala ministers who have expressed their disagreement with the calls to confine women to their homes, emphasizing the importance of women’s active participation in public life.
