Cyberattack affects seven Intermarché supermarkets in Portugal
Seven Intermarché stores were hit by a cyberattack, affecting refrigeration systems and resulting in product losses.

A recent cyberattack impacted seven supermarkets of the Intermarché chain in Portugal, causing changes in the temperature of refrigerated cabinets and freezers. According to information from the Group Mosqueteiros, the refrigeration systems were particularly affected, necessitating the activation of procedures to minimize damage.
The situation led to product losses in three of the impacted stores. The general director of APED (Portuguese Association of Distribution Companies) confirmed that significant losses were recorded at these establishments due to the rise in internal temperatures.
In response to the attack, the Group Mosqueteiros assured that all hygiene and food safety conditions are guaranteed in the affected stores. No further details were disclosed about the impact on supply or the operations of the remaining stores in the chain.
Authorities are currently investigating the case. The Judiciary Police (PJ) and the National Cybersecurity Center (CNCS) have been called in to determine the circumstances of the attack, which is part of a growing trend of cyberattacks targeting refrigeration systems in Europe.
This incident highlights the vulnerability of security systems in supermarkets, where data protection and the maintenance of the cold chain are crucial for preserving food products.
The Group Mosqueteiros and the authorities continue to monitor the situation and implement additional security measures to prevent similar future incidents.
