The Bayeux Tapestry, measuring nearly 70 meters in length, was transferred to London for an exhibition at the British Museum, scheduled to start on September 10. This transport was deemed risky due to the fragility of the work.

Following its arrival in London, experts noted damage to two threads. This was confirmed by Minister of Culture Catherine Pégard, who clarified that the overall condition of the tapestry has not been affected by this incident.

The minister emphasized that despite this damage, there has been no significant deterioration and that the condition of the tapestry remains satisfactory. Therefore, the situation has been acknowledged but does not seem to jeopardize the upcoming exhibition.

The tapestry's visit to London is facilitated by a historical loan decided by French President Emmanuel Macron. This loan aims to share the French cultural heritage with the British public.

The exhibition of the tapestry at the British Museum holds particular importance, as it will allow numerous visitors to admire this emblem of French heritage. French authorities have taken measures to ensure the safety of the work during this exhibition.

The Bayeux Tapestry, dating back to the 11th century, is considered a masterpiece of medieval art. The care taken in its preservation is crucial due to its vulnerability and historical significance.
