The European Commission announced an initial financial package of €100,000 for Colombia following the deadly earthquake.

The number of fatalities resulting from the earthquake in Colombia has risen to 224, according to reports. The quake, which registered a magnitude of 7.4, occurred on Monday and caused significant damage in the affected areas.

In response to the situation, the European Commission announced on Tuesday the mobilization of an initial financial package of €100,000 to support aid and recovery operations in the region.

In addition to financial support, the Commission also activated the Copernicus satellite mapping system, which will be used to assist with rescue operations and identify affected areas.

Moreover, Copernicus satellites had previously been deployed in July after earthquakes in Venezuela, demonstrating the system's readiness for emergency situations in Latin America.
