Death toll from flash floods in Nepal rises to 469
Following devastating flash floods in the border region between Nepal and Tibet, 469 fatalities have been recorded, with the risk of new flooding increasing.

As a result of a severe flash flood in the border area between Nepal and the autonomous region of Tibet in China, the Nepali police report 469 fatalities as of Friday. The catastrophic event has heavily impacted the region, and the death toll continues to rise as rescue operations proceed.
According to current reports, over 1,000 people have been evacuated from the disaster zone, including 555 tourists. This information comes from Chinese authorities, who are assisting in the reporting on the situation on the ground. The evacuation is occurring due to the acute dangers posed by the flash floods.
The water level in a lake formed by the flash floods could increase to around three million cubic meters in the coming days, given the ongoing rainfall. This forecast raises concerns regarding potential new flooding that could further endanger the region.

Chinese authorities have therefore identified a "high risk" for additional catastrophic events and are warning the population and emergency responders about the continuing rainfall expected in the near future. Monitoring of water levels is ongoing.
In total, more than 1,000 individuals remain missing, which further intensifies the situation. Rescue teams and authorities are doing everything possible to locate and save the remaining affected individuals.
