Deaths in wait at Portimão Hospital prompt criticism and demands
Two men died in the emergency room of Portimão Hospital, leading to calls for meetings regarding the situation.

The Mayor of Portimão, Álvaro Bila, described the alleged deaths of patients due to a lack of care at Portimão Hospital as of "extreme seriousness." The mayor stated that the situation requires "urgent measures" to ensure the hospital operates normally.
According to reports, the Local Health Unit (ULS) of the Algarve is investigating the cases of two men, aged 87 and 94, who died in the institution's emergency room last week. Their deaths were reportedly caused by a lack of adequate assistance, necessitating a swift investigation.
Álvaro Bila requested an urgent meeting with the Minister of Health to discuss the issues raised regarding the operation of the hospital. He emphasized that a hospital "exists to care for and save lives," asserting that a lack of resources and organization must not compromise patient safety.

The Socialist Party (PS) also expressed concern over the deaths, demanding explanations from the government regarding what transpired at the hospital. The party called for an intervention plan for the emergency services in Portimão, advocating for an appropriate response to the circumstances.
Additionally, José Luís Carneiro, another politician, urged Luís Montenegro, leader of the PSD, to provide clarification to citizens about the causes of the deaths, highlighting the necessity of transparency in such serious situations.
Calls for a review of protocols and a better action plan for patient care in the emergency department of Portimão Hospital have increased as new information emerges about the hospital's situation.
