An IndiGo flight traveling from Delhi to Chennai was diverted to Hyderabad following an incident where a passenger's power bank caught fire mid-air. The situation unfolded as smoke was detected coming from an electronic device stored in an overhead compartment, triggering immediate response from the cabin crew, according to multiple reports.

Passengers aboard flight 6E 6115 experienced panic as flames emerged from the power bank, leading some to evacuate luggage from the overhead bin. Video footage circulating on social media depicted the chaotic moments as crew members worked to extinguish the flames, ensuring the safety of all on board.

The fire was reportedly brought under control swiftly by the cabin crew, allowing the aircraft to land safely at Hyderabad's airport. A total of 191 passengers were on the flight at the time of the incident, and no injuries were reported, according to various news sources.

After landing, IndiGo announced that it would resume the flight to Chennai following a brief halt. The airline has underscored the importance of following safety protocols regarding the transport of electronic devices onboard.

IndiGo's baggage policy permits power banks and spare lithium batteries only in hand baggage, stating that such devices must remain within a passenger's reach at all times, such as under the seat or in the seat pocket. This protocol is designed to minimize risks associated with lithium battery fires during flights, as per guidelines from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

The DGCA's regulations on carrying power banks in aircraft emphasize the necessity for passengers to adhere to these safety measures, especially given the risks associated with lithium batteries, which can lead to fire hazards if not properly handled. The authorities continue to monitor incidents of this nature to ensure passenger safety.
