Democrats take Congress and deliver historic defeat to Trump
Democrats gained total control of Congress in the midterm elections, delivering a heavy blow to President Donald Trump.

Democrats took control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives in the early hours of Wednesday (4th). This shift in power represents a historic defeat for President Donald Trump, who faced significant rejection at the polls in recent electoral tests.
The midterm elections, held on Tuesday (3rd), resulted in the Democrats gaining at least seven seats in the Senate and flipping dozens of seats in the House, solidifying their victory. Several traditionally Republican strongholds, such as Texas and Kansas, were impacted by Democratic wins, challenging the pre-election expectations.
Following these results, Trump, who had maintained a disdainful attitude towards Congress for the past 20 months, now faces a new reality without control of the legislature. The president announced plans to govern using vetoes over the next two years of his term.

The Democrats also managed to retain their seats in the Senate and performed well in areas that had not traditionally favored their party, highlighting a setback for Trump and a significant advance for Democrats at the polls.
The Democratic victory is interpreted as a strong signal of disapproval of Trump’s administration, which was already dealing with an increasingly contested image, especially regarding its foreign policy and the war against Iran, which he himself cited as a factor in the Republican defeat.
The immediate impact of the Democratic victory will be felt in legislative dynamics, as control of Congress allows the party to decisively influence the political agenda in the coming two years.
