According to the government, nearly 70% of the French territory is currently subject to water restrictions due to the persistent drought. A crisis meeting is scheduled for Wednesday to assess the situation and make new decisions.
The Bureau of Geological and Mining Research (BRGM) confirmed that as of August 1, 63% of groundwater levels in France were below normal, signaling a significant degradation of the situation in July.
As France faces this water crisis, Wallonia is also preparing new restrictions to preserve its groundwater resources, considering the importance of its subterranean water supplies.
