Municipal Association calls for a concerted effort for water supply
In light of the ongoing drought, the German Municipal Association demands a national initiative to ensure water supply and adapt to climate change.
The German Municipal Association has warned of a critical state of water supply in many cities and towns. According to the association's leader Spiegler, half of all districts are already experiencing groundwater stress, highlighting the need for a comprehensive strategy for water management.
Given the significant deviations in precipitation compared to long-term averages, the association urges policymakers to view water as a communal responsibility. Additionally, the Greens criticized the current government under Merz for failing to recognize the need for change in climate protection. A national effort is therefore necessary.
