The chief inspector of probation for England and Wales has expressed concerns regarding an early release scheme, stating it could lead to increased serious crimes. According to the inspector, probation services are currently facing unprecedented pressure in managing those who will be released early under the new sentencing changes.
The policy is expected to affect around 5,000 individuals, who will require supervision by probation staff. This situation raises questions about the capacity of these services to effectively manage such a significant number of early releases.
