A group of electricity producers and oil traders has collectively challenged over €1.1 billion in windfall taxes through a series of lawsuits. This amount results from recently introduced tax measures.
According to figures obtained by De Tijd from the Federal Public Service Economy, electricity producers in Belgium have created over 200 disputed cases.
The lawsuits were initiated in response to the new taxes aimed at taxing extra profits gained by energy companies. The exact details of the lawsuits are currently not public.
