Espanyol dismisses Manolo González after Copa del Rey elimination
RCD Espanyol has sacked Manolo González following their defeat to Sestao River in the Copa del Rey.

RCD Espanyol has officially announced the dismissal of Manolo González after the team was eliminated in the first round of the Copa del Rey. This decision follows the defeat against Sestao River, a team from the Segunda Federación, with a score of 4-3, resulting in Espanyol's exit from the tournament after a challenging match.
González held the position for two and a half years, taking over the leadership of the team in March 2024. His tenure was marked by a key promotion and the team's survival in La Liga, although the team's performance had been unsatisfactory in recent weeks.
The match against Sestao not only meant the club's elimination but also marked the third consecutive defeat in cup competitions for the blanquiazules. The situation was critical, as the team had gone six matches without a victory.

González's dismissal comes amid Espanyol's search for a turnaround after a difficult start to the season. In this regard, Sergio García, a player from the reserve team, will temporarily take over as head coach while the club seeks a permanent replacement.
This sacking marks a new chapter in the recent history of Espanyol, which has already changed coaches multiple times in recent seasons. The search for a new manager will be a priority for the club in the coming days.
Additionally, it has been reported that Espanyol has chosen Eder Sarabia as the new head coach. Sarabia, a former assistant to Quique Setién and with experience at teams such as Andorra and Elche, has signed a contract until 2028.
