Cyclone Murasu Causes School Closures and Flight Cancellations Across Regions
Cyclone Murasu has led to school closures in Chennai, Tiruvallur, and Palnadu, along with multiple flight cancellations as it approaches Andhra Pradesh.

The approach of Cyclone Murasu has prompted school closures in several districts. In Palnadu, the District Collector has declared November 2 as a holiday for schools and colleges due to the impending weather disturbances. Similarly, Chennai and Tiruvallur District Collectors have announced school and college closures on the same date in anticipation of heavy rainfall and severe weather conditions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that Cyclone Murasu is moving towards the south Andhra Pradesh coast. It is expected to make landfall between midnight today and the early hours of tomorrow. Wind speeds are projected to reach 100 to 110 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 120 km/h, particularly affecting areas from Nellore to Narsapur.
As the cyclonic storm approaches, heavy rainfall has begun in Chennai and its surrounding districts, disrupting daily activities. The rainfall amounts have been significant, with some places already reporting upwards of 16 cm. The storm's intensity has resulted in flight cancellations in Vijayawada and Chennai, affecting air travel in these regions.

Fishermen have responded to the cyclone's approach by hauling over 400 boats ashore near Kothapatnam in Andhra’s Ongole. This precautionary measure reflects the severity of the storm as it nears the coastline. Residents and local authorities are taking steps to safeguard against potential impacts from the cyclone.
According to reports, the landfall of Cyclone Murasu began around 1 am on Tuesday, resulting in continuing heavy rainfall and strong winds across the Andhra coast. The storm's wind strength is expected to generate alarming conditions, particularly for those in low-lying areas, who may face flooding.
As the cyclone progresses, it is anticipated that it will weaken into a deep depression by midnight. Despite the expected weakening, local authorities have urged residents, especially in vulnerable areas, to remain vigilant and prepared for possible flooding and other storm-related effects.
