Expensive Rolex stolen from hotel guest in Antwerp by distracting thieves
Nico Jasica from Schilde fell victim to theft while helping a man at the Botanic Sanctuary Hotel.

Nico Jasica, 36 years old and from Schilde, became a victim of theft on Friday evening in Antwerp. This occurred near the Botanic Sanctuary Hotel, where he and his wife were about to finish a birthday dinner.
During their dinner, two men asked Nico for a light, which led to a distraction maneuver. While Nico was preoccupied, one of the men managed to steal his Rolex from his wrist. This was reported by both Gazet van Antwerpen and HLN (Het Laatste Nieuws).
However, Nico only realized later, while showering, that his watch was missing. He discovered the theft only when he intended to take off his watch, which came as a shock to him, given that it was an expensive Rolex.

Additionally, this is not the first time that pickpockets have been active around luxury hospitality venues and hotels in central Antwerp. The police have issued warning messages about such incidents.
The way the thief presented himself, with a distracting dance, adds a particular aspect to this incident. Such distraction maneuvers have been reported before and have raised concerns about safety in the city.
Nico's experience underscores the need for vigilance in busy public spaces, especially around events or celebrations, where criminal activities may increase.
