On Thursday afternoon, an explosion took place at a munitions factory located in Colleferro, about 40 kilometers southeast of Rome. Italian police have confirmed the incident, which was reportedly preceded by a fire in the building.

Italian media such as ANSA and Corriere della Sera report that a loud explosion was heard several kilometers away. Fire and police teams were already on-site to combat the fire at the moment of the detonation.

The factory belongs to the German defense group KNDS and specializes in manufacturing medium and large caliber munitions. According to sources, the explosion occurred in the area where explosive powder is processed.
