A violent collision between two buses has left at least 22 dead, including 17 soldiers, in southern Niger, according to multiple reports.
On Friday, a head-on collision between two buses occurred in southern Niger, resulting in the deaths of at least 22 people, including 17 soldiers, according to Le Monde. The Nigerien Press Agency (ANP) confirmed on Saturday that the accident also left 37 injured.
This accident comes as Niger grapples with a worrying increase in road accidents. In 2025, over 7,000 accidents were recorded, resulting in more than 1,200 deaths according to official figures.
Nigerien authorities are faced with the necessity to take action to curb this scourge, while road safety remains a major concern in the country.
