Federal government considers suspending Sunday driving ban for trucks
Due to historic low water levels on the Rhine, the federal government is considering measures regarding truck driving times.
In light of the current water levels reaching a historic low, the Federal Ministry of Transport is considering suspending the Sunday driving ban for trucks. Transport Minister Steffen Bilger participated in a summit meeting with representatives from industry and logistics to discuss rapid measures.
Shipping on the Rhine has been significantly restricted due to the low water levels, resulting in a reduced transport volume. At the same time, discussions are underway with the railway about the possibility of conducting additional freight transport.
