A forest fire has devastated nearly 2,700 hectares in the Hautes Fagnes, according to reports from La Libre Belgique and RTBF. Firefighters are continuing their efforts to contain the blaze, which has caused smoke to spread throughout the region.
The situation has been described as one of the worst fires in Belgium's history by the mayors of Waimes and other local officials. Surrounding communities are on alert as conditions continue to worsen.
