First residents return to High Fens, fire still not under control
As the first residents return, the fire in the High Fens remains a major issue due to persistent hotspots.

Interior Minister Quintin has confirmed that residents can return to the High Fens, but warned that the fire is far from under control. During a visit to the disaster area alongside King Philippe, he emphasized the situation.
The rain on Sunday night and Monday morning has slowed the fire in the region, but it does not guarantee that the flames have been extinguished. Minister Quintin pointed to persistent hotspots that could worsen the situation.
According to reports, more than 4,200 football fields of peatland have already been destroyed by the wildfire. This has caused significant concern among local residents, and emergency services are providing relief measures.
Rain is again expected today in the High Fens, which could further impact firefighting efforts. However, it remains unclear when the fire will be fully under control.
