Fire in the Hautes Fagnes: Emergency Measures and International Aerial Resources Deployed
Belgium faces a fire in the Hautes Fagnes requiring international aerial resources, as an interior commission meets to discuss responses.

A fire is spreading in the Hautes Fagnes, raising growing concerns about Belgium's capacity to manage such events. A recent report had already highlighted a lack of aerial resources, amplifying the risk of wildfires in the country.
For now, efforts are underway to contain the blaze, with international aerial resources activated. Norway has provided two helicopters, while Germany and the Netherlands each send one helicopter. Additionally, two Swedish planes are also deployed to support firefighting operations.
According to information from RTBF, the situation is improving, with the fire now encircled but remaining active. Storms in the region may bring relief, but firefighters remain on alert to prevent any risk of spread.

Meanwhile, a session of the interior commission is taking place to review the situation. Interior Minister Bernard Quintin is answering questions from deputies regarding the management and measures to be taken in response to this disaster.
The Socialist Party has advocated for the creation of a special commission to focus on long-term solutions, emphasizing the need to improve the country's preparedness for wildfires.
