Flock CEO Acknowledges Delays in Addressing Misuse of Surveillance Technology

Garrett Langley, the CEO of Flock Safety, acknowledged that the company took too long to respond to instances of police misuse of its surveillance cameras.

This admission follows reports that some police officers in the U.S. have resigned after using license plate-reading technology to track romantic partners.

Flock Safety, which operates a network of cameras allowing for approximately 20 billion license plate scans monthly, had previously left safety measure implementation up to its clients. Many did not activate these options.

In response to increasing scrutiny and public concern, Flock Safety will implement key platform updates by January 1, converting optional safety features into mandatory ones for all users.

These steps aim to prevent further misuse of its technology, which has reportedly been employed to target vulnerable populations, including immigrants and individuals seeking medical services in different states.
