Footbridge collapses on Fernão Dias Highway, leaving two dead in Vargem
A footbridge collapsed after being struck by a truck on Fernão Dias Highway in Vargem, resulting in two fatalities and one injury.

On the morning of Tuesday, October 18, a footbridge collapsed on the Fernão Dias Highway (BR-381) in Vargem, São Paulo, after being hit by a truck. The concessionaire Motiva Minas SP confirmed that two people died as a result of the incident.
Rescue teams were called at 10:24 a.m. to respond to the occurrence, which took place at km 5, in the direction of São Paulo (south). The concessionaire's rescuers are present at the site with several vehicles, including an inspection vehicle and a tow truck.
A video of the incident went viral, clearly showing the moment the truck collides with the footbridge, which then collapses onto the highway. At the time of the fall, a car and another truck were also in the area, though there were no reports of additional injuries.

So far, a third victim who was injured is being assessed. Details regarding the identity of the victims and the condition of the injured person have not yet been released by the authorities.
Local authorities have been informed and are investigating the circumstances that led to the collapse of the structure. The highway was completely blocked, impacting traffic in the region.
The concessionaire Motiva Minas SP continues to work on-site to remove the debris from the footbridge and restore normalcy to the road as quickly as possible.
