Mychajlo Fedorow, the former Defense Minister of Ukraine, has called for elections in the country following his dismissal nearly a month ago. This occurs amid the ongoing war with Russia, making the demand for a political vote a contentious issue.

Fedorow stated that democracy must not become a hostage of Russia. In a video message, he made it clear that the fight for democracy and freedom is crucial for maintaining Ukraine's status as a European state.

He expressed a desire for a "legal, safe, and realistic mechanism" for conducting elections, even under the current conditions of conflict. This statement represents a political taboo and increases pressure on the Ukrainian government.

The former minister's comments come at a time when the government in Kyiv is facing various challenges, both internally and externally. Fedorow was previously known as a confidant of President Zelenskiy and is now seen in the role of a critic.
