The French government has declared a nighttime curfew in several areas of Paris and in four cities in the north of the country, including Lille, Douai, Wattignies, and Denain. The decision was announced on Monday by Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu following incidents of looting and violence that occurred during protests over the past weekend.

Sébastien Lecornu stated that the aim of the measure is to protect people and property, especially businesses. The implementation of the curfew comes after a series of disturbances that raised concerns about public safety.

In addition to the curfew, the political party Livre plans to schedule an urgent debate on housing issues for Wednesday, reflecting worries about the safety and well-being of the population.

According to the press, the curfew has been seen as a necessary response to the recent violent events, with the government emphasizing the importance of maintaining public order during this period.

The report also highlights that the measures will be continuously reassessed and will only be implemented in areas where the situation warrants it, as expressed by Lecornu.

The government also intends to take action against the resale of stolen goods, denouncing illegal practices that have emerged amid the turmoil. The focus will be on making affected areas safer for citizens and protecting local businesses during the night.
