Starting in autumn 2023, a new regulation for full-day places in municipal kindergartens in Vienna will come into effect. Parents or legal guardians who currently qualify for a full-day place will no longer lose it if they go on parental leave or experience job loss. Previously, in such cases, children often had to be picked up from kindergarten earlier, which will now change.

The responsible city councilor Bettina Emmerling (NEOS) informed that the reform aims to improve the care situation for affected families. The adjustment of the regulation is intended to ensure that children can remain in full-day care permanently, regardless of their parents' employment situation.

This measure is part of a broader strategy by the city to promote the reconciliation of work and family life. No further details regarding the exact procedures of the regulation have been disclosed so far.
