German government strengthens intelligence agency's powers in response to threats

The German government has approved a reform granting greater powers to its intelligence service, the Bundesnachrichtendienst (BND). According to reports, this measure aims to enable the BND to conduct sabotage operations and offensive cyber actions, as well as more aggressive espionage missions. This easing of restrictions that had been in place since the end of World War II marks a significant shift in the country's intelligence policy.

The reform also includes an increase in the budget allocated to the BND, which will facilitate the implementation of these new capabilities. This change comes amid a perceived rise in external threats to Germany's security.
