On August 4, an explosives-laden drone was found near a Ukrainian Antonov cargo plane used for transporting military supplies. This incident raised concerns over security at Leipzig/Halle airport, which is associated with NATO.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that Germany is facing real threats of hybrid attacks and that the perpetrators of these acts will be held accountable. Merz emphasized the need to ensure the security of airspace and the government's swift response to such threats.

After the detection of the explosive drone, two more drones were spotted near the airport, leading to intensified investigations. Merz promised that the identities of those responsible for the attempted attack will be disclosed soon as the details of the investigation unfold.

The security of airport infrastructure in Leipzig has become a major concern, especially in light of recent occurrences. The German government reaffirmed its firm stance in the face of these security challenges, treating the situation as a priority.

In addition to the discovery of the initial explosive drone, a third drone was found on August 14, ten days after the first two incidents. This sequence of events underscores concerns regarding the protection of airports and military operations that depend on them.

The increasing use of drones in attack scenarios raises debates about the need for a more robust response and prevention strategies against such threats. The government is actively working to clarify the facts and take appropriate measures in response to this situation.
