Government and Unions Reach Agreement on New Regime for Teaching Portuguese Abroad
The government and unions have reached an understanding on the new teaching regime, which includes salary increases of up to 20%.

The Government of Portugal and the unions representing teachers and lecturers of Portuguese abroad announced an agreement on the new Regime for Teaching Portuguese Abroad (RJEPE). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which oversees this sector, disclosed the information this Monday.
According to a statement sent to Lusa, the new agreement includes cumulative salary increases for the professionals involved. The implementation of this regime will require an additional budget of €8.6 million, as reported by several sources.
The salary scales for Portuguese teachers abroad had not been reviewed since 2009, making this agreement significant for the recognition of these professionals.

The agreement stipulates that salary increases will average around 20% until 2029. The National Federation of Teachers (FNE) noted that this understanding is seen as satisfactory by the parties involved.
The new regime encompasses all teachers and lecturers of Portuguese in various parts of the world, allowing for a better remuneration structure and career progression.
This development is an important step towards ensuring better working conditions and recognition for the teaching of Portuguese in international contexts.
