Prime Minister Luís Montenegro announced on Tuesday the implementation of an extraordinary supplement for pensioners earning up to 1,611 euros. This bonus will be paid in December and will benefit around two million pensioners, according to various sources.

In addition to the supplement, Montenegro also announced a reduction in IRS up to the sixth bracket. This measure, according to the Prime Minister, will reflect in withholdings starting in November, specifically in salaries and allowances, as stipulated.

Montenegro highlighted that the IRS relief will be retroactive to January 2026, a piece of information that was discussed by both the Government and the opposition. During the hearing, the Prime Minister reinforced the continuance of his tax reduction policy, which had already been indicated earlier, in August.

On the same day, Minister of Internal Administration Luís Neves was heard by MPs. Despite criticisms from parties such as Chega and Iniciativa Liberal, who stated that Neves is unfit to continue in office, the minister reaffirmed his confidence and intention to remain in the Government.

Neves declared: "I maintain confidence in myself to continue in office," emphasizing his determination to face challenges. This statement comes amid a heated debate between the government member and the opposition, which questioned his competence.

The measures announced by Montenegro, both the supplement for pensioners and the reduction in IRS, are expected to be formally approved at the next Council of Ministers, scheduled for Thursday. According to the Prime Minister, these initiatives aim to mitigate the impact of the economic crisis on citizens.
