The Spanish government has intervened at the port of Ceuta with the aim of establishing a space to house over 1,000 migrants. This decision comes amid a migration crisis in the autonomous city, which has seen a significant increase in arrivals since the end of July.

The order was signed by Transport Minister Óscar Puente and falls under the Ports Law. This measure allows for the occupation of 16,000 square meters at the Poniente dock for the installation of tents and other services for migrants.

The Ministry has authorized the installation of tents that will accommodate over a thousand people, providing rest areas, medical facilities, and social services. The decision was made after the Port Authority of Ceuta rejected the relocation of migrants to this area.

Despite initial plans agreed upon with the city to carry out this operation, the Port Authority changed its mind at the last moment, prompting government intervention. The Port Authority's refusal was discussed in a board meeting, where it was decided to reject the proposal.

The situation in Ceuta has been complicated over the past month, and the government's response aims to provide assistance amid the influx of people seeking asylum and support. The intervention is deemed necessary due to the pressures exerted by the regional migration crisis.
