The Greek Coast Guard rescued 102 migrants in two operations conducted off the island of Crete, specifically south of Gavdos Island. These operations were supported by drones from the European agency Frontex.

In addition, the Portuguese Maritime Police also participated in a subsequent operation following a request from Greek authorities. This intervention led to the interception of a vessel, from which 43 men were rescued, including 40 from Bangladesh and three from Sudan.

The operation conducted by the Portuguese Maritime Police resulted in the rescue of 45 people, including a pregnant woman. The nationalities of those rescued were not specified in this context, but the action was triggered by a request from local authorities.

The rescue operations on Friday totalled at least 205 people saved in four distinct actions off Greece, as reported.

The interventions highlight the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in the region, where the situation for migrants is often critical. Collectively, the operations were carried out in response to a significant influx of migrants seeking safety and better living conditions.

This high number of rescues underscores the ongoing need for vigilance and rapid responses from organizations responsible for maritime safety and assistance to migrants.
