A helicopter belonging to the Flying Doctor Service crashed near the Long Lellang short take-off and landing airport in Sarawak on September 8. The aircraft, identified as a BO-105, was reportedly carrying five individuals, including the pilot and health ministry personnel. According to reports, all five aboard did not survive the crash.

Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad confirmed the fatality of those onboard, consisting of the pilot and four medical staff members. Initial reports indicated that among the deceased was Dr. Ainul Baraah Kamarudin, who had recently returned to Sarawak to serve remote communities.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia has not released specific details regarding the condition of the individuals prior to the crash. An investigation team from the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is expected to arrive in Miri to assess the situation further, with plans to leave the wreckage untouched during their inquiry.

In the aftermath of the incident, various officials have extended their condolences to the families of the victims. The King and Queen of Malaysia expressed their sympathies, while the government has pledged support and assistance to the affected families.

Reports also noted that the pilot had engaged in a video call with his mother just hours before the tragedy, suggesting a personal connection to the events leading up to the crash. The father of one of the victims described the dedication of the medical staff to serving rural communities, emphasizing their commitment to providing healthcare in remote areas.
