Horse euthanized for swamp fever in Lokeren, others in quarantine

In Lokeren, East Flanders, another horse has tested positive for swamp fever. The Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FASFC) has confirmed that the infected horse will be euthanized to prevent further spread of the disease.

At Stal De Vogelzang, this is not the first time a diagnosed horse has had to be euthanized. A similar situation occurred earlier this year, resulting in another horse being euthanized.

All other 87 horses at the stable, just like last year, must remain in quarantine for three months. The quarantine measure is intended to minimize the risk of further infection.

The FASFC is currently investigating whether there is a connection between the current and previous infections of swamp fever at the same location. It remains unclear if other horses in the stable are also infected.
