Humanitarian evacuation underway in Oleschky
A humanitarian evacuation operation has begun in Oleschky, in the Kherson region, thanks to a local ceasefire.

Following a six-day ceasefire, a large-scale humanitarian evacuation operation has begun in the city of Oleschky, which is occupied by Russian forces. Residents can choose to leave the city and head to either Ukraine or Russia, supported by a humanitarian convoy consisting of about 25 buses and ambulances.
Ukrainian and Russian authorities have collaborated to facilitate the evacuation, marking a rare example of cooperation between the two warring nations. Estimates indicate that approximately 527 people have been evacuated initially, though this number is not final and could increase in the coming days, with a potential total of around a thousand residents willing to leave the city.
The evacuation operations have been made possible by the continuation of the ceasefire, which has ensured a safe corridor for humanitarian convoys. Evacuated individuals have been transported through Crimea and Belarus before returning to Ukraine.

In recent days, Oleschky has experienced a worsening humanitarian situation, with the arrival of food and medical supplies for local residents. Both parties have confirmed the distribution of aid in the form of essential goods and medicines, highlighting this as one of the most significant humanitarian interventions since the conflict began in February 2022.
The governor of Kherson stated that humanitarian cooperation is crucial at this moment of crisis, and that further evacuations could be organized in the coming days. The situation remains tense, with additional attacks expected in other areas of the country while evacuation operations continue in Oleschky.
Finally, Ukrainian authorities have emphasized the importance of the current ceasefire, which not only allows for the evacuation but also provides an opportunity for future negotiations amidst growing instability.
