In Moscow: Chinese PhD Student Arrested for Playfulness
A 42-year-old doctoral student from China was arrested in Moscow on suspicion of espionage. The arrest took place in April of this year.
The Lefortovo Court in Moscow has detained a 42-year-old student and PhD candidate from the People's Friendship University of Russia (RUDN), Chen Yun Ta, on suspicion of espionage. This was reported by 'Mediason'.
The court's decision was made back in April. The suspect was unlawfully subjected to a so-called 'carousel arrest' and previously spent 15 days in jail for alleged 'petty hooliganism', reports 'Novaya Gazeta Europe'.
Following the completion of the 15 days, Chen Yun Ta was directly transferred to a pre-trial detention center due to the ongoing criminal proceedings. The exact charges against him are currently unknown, and the details of the highly sensitive case remain unclear.
Several scientific publications by Yun Ta are already scheduled for 2024 and 2025, raising questions about the potential impact of his arrest on his academic career.
