Increase in collective layoffs in Spain affects more than 21,000 workers
Collective layoffs in Spain surpass 21,000 in the first half of 2026, marking a 5% increase from the previous year, driven by adjustments in various sectors.

In the first half of 2026, more than 21,000 workers were affected by collective layoffs, representing a 5% increase compared to the previous year, according to El País. This rise in layoffs, known as ERE, is driven by significant adjustments in the technology and manufacturing sectors, as well as among various multinationals.
Infobae reports that in June 2026 alone, ERE affected 9,759 workers. This increase in layoffs is linked to the implementation of large employment regulation files in companies such as Glovo, Nestlé, Nissan, Capgemini, Inetum, and Vass.

According to El Tiempo, companies are prioritizing the permanent termination of contracts instead of opting for temporary job adjustments, which has contributed to the rise in the number of collective layoffs.
The situation reflects a context of restructuring in the Spanish economy, where mass layoffs are becoming increasingly common in key sectors.
