Investigations Launched After Disruption at Substation in Bergheim, NRW – Suspicion of Criminal Activity
Following a recent attack on a coal power plant in Brandenburg, further investigations are underway regarding an incident at a substation in NRW.

In North Rhine-Westphalia, an incident occurred at a substation in Bergheim, leading to a short circuit and the partial shutdown of two coal power plants operated by the energy company RWE. This was confirmed by the Essen police department. Initial investigations suggest that the police are treating it as a deliberate act.
A spokesperson for the Essen police stated that they do not believe a technical defect is involved, but rather a criminal act, indicating a possible act of sabotage. The exact circumstances of the incident remain unclear and are under further investigation.

This incident follows an attack on the Jänschwalde coal power plant in Brandenburg, which also raised suspicions of terrorism. The police in Brandenburg have launched an investigation into disturbances of public operations and other crimes in this context.
