Iran has granted permission for "several" tankers from Iraq to transit through the Strait of Hormuz. This decision came after a visit by the Iranian Parliament Speaker, Mohamad Baqer Qalibaf, to Iraq, where the issue of this transit was discussed, according to the Iranian state agency IRNA.

The authorization reflects a broader effort by Iranian authorities to facilitate the transport of Iraqi oil amid rising tensions in the region. The situation in the Strait of Hormuz, a key maritime route for oil transport, has been marked by insecurity and intensified military actions.

According to reports, the decision to allow the passage of Iraqi tankers was also influenced by requests made by the Baghdad government, which aims to expand its crude exports through alternative routes to mitigate the impacts of its reliance on traditional maritime transport through the Strait.

Iranian authorities state that, despite challenges, they continue to find ways to keep export channels open and functional, allowing the movement of essential resources.

Moreover, this authorization can be viewed as a response to the current geopolitical context, where interactions between Iran and Iraq have become increasingly strategic, particularly regarding energy security.

IRNA did not provide details on the number of tankers involved or any other terms associated with this authorization, merely stating that the measure seeks to respond to Iraqi demands.
