Iran's civil aviation authority has announced the cancellation of flights to Baghdad and Muscat effective from midnight, as new US sanctions come into force. The Tasnim news agency reported that these restrictions mean that Baghdad and Muscat airports will no longer accept flights from Iranian airlines.

Simultaneously, Iraq’s Najaf airport has suspended all flights to and from Iran based on a directive from the Iraqi Prime Minister's office. This suspension aligns with the enforcement of sanctions that aim to limit Iranian air travel by cutting off access to neighboring countries' airports.

Other airports in Iraq, including Baghdad, Erbil, and Sulaimaniyah, have also halted flights to Iran, reflecting a broader regional compliance with US sanctions designed to restrict Iranian aviation services. Reports indicate that the aviation sanctions could push travelers to seek land routes, resulting in potentially longer and more costly travel times.

The sanctions imposed by the US target Iranian airlines directly, aiming to impede their operations worldwide. The UAE has also moved to comply with the new US regulations by suspending Iranian airline flights, which affects significant travel between Iran and the UAE's commercial hub of Dubai.

The announcement comes in the context of recently introduced financial sanctions aimed at penalizing any companies or countries engaging in business with Iranian firms. The intensified sanctions indicate a concerted effort by the US to isolate Iran's aviation sector, aiming to deter further economic interactions with the nation.

As these sanctions take effect, the implications for both travelers and regional air travel are becoming apparent. Many travelers will now face longer journeys and increased expenses due to the unavailability of direct flights, further complicating travel logistics for those wishing to visit Iran from neighboring countries.
