Tuesday marks a decisive vote for Israel. Voters are called to the polls to choose the 120 members of the Knesset in an election held for the first time since the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. The power struggle is primarily fought between Netanyahu and Eisenkot.

Gadi Eisenkot is the former chief of staff of the Israeli military who spent four decades in the armed forces. According to SAPO 24, he is the father of a son who died in Gaza. Eisenkot entered politics as leader of the Yashar! party and is presenting himself as Netanyahu's opponent in the race for the post of prime minister.

Eisenkot states that Israel cannot endure another four years like the last ones. His political priorities include an investigation into the security failures of October 7, changes to military service, and a new strategy for Gaza, according to the material. However, he does not present an unequivocal position on the creation of a Palestinian state.

The election campaign has intensified in recent days. On Sunday night, thousands of Israelis participated in the final rallies of the parties, according to RTP. This mobilization occurs against a backdrop of political tensions over the conduct of state affairs.

Tuesday's vote represents the moment when Israelis can choose between different visions for the country. The dispute between Netanyahu and Eisenkot centres on governance and responses to the events of October 7. The election result will determine the composition of the next Parliament and the eventual formation of a new government.

As voters enter the polling stations, Israelis face choices on security, military strategy and domestic policy. The election takes place in a context marked by the consequences of the Hamas attack and the need to chart new political directions for the country.
