Jharkhand Protest: Devendra Mahto Hospitalised Amid Violent Clashes

Devendra Nath Mahto, leader of the Jharkhand Loktantrik Jantantrik Morcha (JLKM), was hospitalised after his health worsened due to a nine-day hunger strike. His condition deteriorated as he participated in protests against alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations in Jharkhand. During the protests at the state assembly, several protesters and four police officers were reported injured.

Aide Pankaj Kumar stated that Mahto sustained injuries during a police lathi-charge while he was near the assembly. Police reportedly employed water cannons and tear gas against the demonstrators, escalating tensions during the event.

The protest march, which involved numerous job aspirants, was fueled by ongoing allegations of misconduct in the state's recruitment processes. The atmosphere turned violent as clashes broke out between the police and the protesters.

Officials confirmed that injuries were sustained on both sides amid the police's attempt to disperse the crowd. The condition of Mahto, a key figure in advocating for the protesters, raises concerns among his supporters about the situation surrounding job recruitment in the state.
