Karnataka Suspends Food Licences of Amazon, Instamart, and BigBasket
Karnataka authorities have suspended the food licences of Amazon, Instamart, and BigBasket due to the sale of toxic datura fruits.

Karnataka authorities have suspended the food licences of Amazon, Swiggy Instamart, and BigBasket after toxic datura fruits and seeds were found being sold on these platforms. The department directed an immediate removal of all listings and advertisements related to datura.
The decision to suspend the licences came after complaints regarding the sale of these fruits, which pose serious health risks. The department emphasized that selling datura as food could lead to severe health consequences, including coma and death in extreme cases, if consumed.

In response to the action, BigBasket stated that it had halted the online sale of the datura fruits. Meanwhile, Instamart requested additional time to submit its documentation concerning the issue, and Amazon did not submit a response to the department's inquiries.
The state had previously initiated an investigation into the online listings of datura products, which were categorized as illegal for food sale due to their toxicity.
